Habitat
As these are a hybrid species, they are not found in nature. Habitat requirements reflect that of the parent species; South and Central American rivers and streams.
A comfortable temperature for these fish is between 24°C - 28°C.
Size
Our Blue Polar Parrots currently measure between 2cm and 6cm and have settled very well in our shop's aquarium systems.
This species' maximum size typically falls between 10cm and 15cm (4" - 6").
Aquarium
We recommend an aquarium with a minimum capacity of 115 Litres (30 Gallons) with a larger setup if you plan to keep multiple, or with other species.
Try to replicate the habitat of the parent species, with plenty of rocks, hiding caves, and a substrate consisting of either sand or fine gravel as they do like to root about.
Behaviour
Blue Polar Parrot Cichlids are classed as "Semi Aggressive". Please be careful with your choice of tank mates, as they can bully and attack smaller, more timid fish.
They are also somewhat territorial, especially when guarding their eggs.
That being said, you also need to avoid keeping them with much larger and more aggressive fish if you want them to thrive.
This is a freshwater species - Do not put them in a marine / saltwater aquarium.
