The Showa is a classic and highly prized variety of Japanese Koi Carp, celebrated for its bold tricolour pattern. Showa display a deep, jet-black (sumi) base, beautifully contrasted by vibrant red (hi) and pure white markings.

Showa are considered one of the "Big Three" along with Kohaku and Sanke varieties.

Unlike Sanke, the black in Showa appears across the entire body, including the head, creating dramatic, dynamic patterns that are unique to each fish.

Showa are admired for their strong visual impact and the seamless interplay of all three colours. The best examples feature a glossy, well-balanced black base, intense red patches, and crisp white highlights, with the pattern wrapping elegantly around the body.
